U.S. 290 (the Northwest Freeway) carries traffic toward downtown Houston and the Energy Corridor, while the Grand Parkway (State Highway 99) and I-10 provide east-west connections across the region. The drive to downtown Houston generally runs 35 to 50 minutes depending on traffic, with the heaviest congestion concentrated near Cypress and Beltway 8 during rush hour. The community's rail heritage continues through the freight line that passes through the area.

Recreation in Hockley centers on the open space that defines the area. Residents enjoy room for riding, gardening, and rural pastimes on larger properties, and the newer master-planned communities provide parks, trails, and community amenities within their boundaries. For broader recreation, Waller and Tomball are a short drive away with their own parks and small-town shopping districts, while Houston's museums, sports venues, and cultural attractions lie within reach along U.S. 290. The nearby prairie landscape offers a quieter outdoor setting than the denser suburbs closer to the city.
