Fulshear is a city in northwestern Fort Bend County, Texas, on the western edge of the Houston–The Woodlands–Sugar Land metropolitan area, just west of Katy. Once a small agricultural community, it has become one of the Houston region's centers of master-planned residential development. Its population has risen sharply from about 17,000 at the 2020 census to roughly 35,000 residents today, reflecting the scale of new-home construction across the area. The city's identity is closely tied to its master-planned communities, chief among them Cross Creek Ranch, a large development built around parks, trails, lakes, and community amenities. Newer communities such as Cross Creek West continue the pattern, giving Fulshear a distinctly family-oriented, amenity-rich suburban character. The surrounding prairie and agricultural land still shape the landscape at the city's edges, providing open space and a small-town feel within the larger metro. Public schools are part of Lamar Consolidated ISD (LCISD), with Fulshear High School serving the area. The district covers much of western Fort Bend County and has added campuses to keep pace with the city's growth. FM 1093 is the main corridor through town, while the Grand Parkway and Interstate 10 provide regional access to Katy, the Energy Corridor, and greater Houston. Fulshear attracts families and professionals drawn to new construction, strong schools, and a small-town feel within reach of Houston's employment centers. Residents enjoy community pools, trail systems, and neighborhood events, along with the open space and slower pace of the far western suburbs. The city's rapid transformation from ranch land to master-planned suburb has created a community of largely newer homes where neighborhood amenities and planned public spaces define everyday life.
