Historic Brazos River Town

Townhouses & Duplexes in Brazoria, TX

Welcome to Brazoria, a small Brazoria County city on the lower Brazos River, part of the Houston metro area and steeped in the "Where Texas Began" history of the Texas Gulf Coast.

Brazoria is a city in Brazoria County, Texas, on the lower Brazos River southwest of Houston. It is part of the Houston–Sugar Land metropolitan area, though its small population of roughly 2,900 and rural surroundings give it a distinctly small-town character. The city sits in a region long called "Where Texas Began," a reference to the area's role in the earliest years of Anglo settlement in Mexican Texas and its place along the river that shaped so much of the state's early history. The town's roots run deep. During the Texas Revolution, Brazoria was virtually deserted in the Runaway Scrape, when settlers fled ahead of the Mexican army, and the community later rebuilt. A school opened in the settlement as early as 1838, a post office followed in 1846, and by 1884 Brazoria was described as a "stirring village" of about 800 people. That legacy of education and community endurance remains part of the city's identity today. Modern Brazoria is a quiet residential community supported by Brazoria County's diversified economy, which spans manufacturing, petrochemicals, agriculture, education, and public services. The city is served by Columbia-Brazoria ISD, headquartered in nearby West Columbia, which unites Brazoria, West Columbia, Wild Peach, and smaller communities across roughly 225 square miles. This shared district reinforces the close ties among the area's towns. Recreation is a major draw. Brazoria offers local parks such as Lion's Club Park and Wilson City Park, while the surrounding county provides fishing, camping, paddling, birding, sandy beaches, and boat ramps. The Brazoria National Wildlife Refuge and Brazos River County Park are close by, and the Gulf Coast communities of Lake Jackson and Freeport add additional amenities. For households, Brazoria offers an affordable, history-rich small-town setting within about an hour of Houston. It suits those who want space, a slower pace, and easy access to coastal recreation, while remaining connected to the jobs and services of the greater Houston region.
